Operating process Fine abrasive blasting according to the spark erosive processing of work pieces It is a well-known fact that a so-called white zone (martensite/cementite) occurs with wire erosion and also with electric discharge machining. Different metallurgical researches have proven that the white zone can be influenced and that it can have a different thickness, always according to the adjustment of method, material and generator. The fine abrasive blasting is a dry abrasive blasting process, during which a defined grain size of a particular medium is shot on the surface with the help of compressed air and thus the material removal and compression are influenced. The fine abrasive blasting after the erosion shows the following advantages . 1. The hard martensite layer on the eroded work piece and eroded electrode are removed completely and within seconds. All this without the rounding up of the edges. 2. Step-by-step finest processing in order to achieve defined surfaces. The surface geometries can be changed as such that they are three-dimensionally with either a concave or a convex orientation. 3. Levelling and compression of the surface parts in order to reduce the frictional wear and in order to optimize the characteristics of pairing on different materials. 4. Undercoat preparations and cleaning of the surface for galvanic coating. 5. Reprocessing of strongly soiled injection moulds with a following compression of the surface (increase of the life-cycle and of the anti-adhesion impact). 6. The surface roughness can be refined (ca. RA 0.5-1.5µ) as such that the required surface finish can be achieved within a considerably reduced period (cost saving) before the polishing by fine abrasive blasting of the surface. In addition to the usual, well-known fine processing methods within the framework of manufacturing technology and in order to achieve a definite surface geometry, this new processing method has set new standards. Due to our longstanding researching and developments, the common abrasive blasting and elutriation could be turned into a definite, reproducible surface processing method. This is result is achieved with the help of our modern technology!METAV Düsseldorf Hall 15 Booth F37 International fair for manufacturing technology and automation
